Faith in America Enters Expansion Phase
August 24, 2010
Friends,
As you can see from the attached article, we're making big changes at Faith in America -- all with the important goal of having a greater impact at reducing religion-based bigotry toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. From targeting Evangelical preachers in Orange County, CA and elsewhere, to the Southern Baptist Convention and the U.S. Catholic Bishops, Faith in America will lead the way in countering religious teachings that for too long have hurt people in the LGBT community.
Additionally, we are putting forth a major youth initiative to ensure that LGBT youth have the best information and best resources available to them as they are confronted with the the religion based prejudice and hostility that has caused extremely high rates of depression and suicide. No longer will we tolerate the immense harm caused to gay people, especially our youth, by those who justify such violence and hostility with religious teaching.
The time is right for this expansion. We are a few short weeks away from putting many of these pieces in place. But we can't move forward without two important things:
1. We need each of you to send this message on to your own list of LGBT friends and supporters. Encourage them to sign up at www.faithinamerica.com. An important part of our expansion is to build a large and more active base of supporters to help implement these initiatives.
2. We need to raise significant resources to fund these important initiatives. Please go to https://www.faithinamerica.com/give.php and make as generous a contribution as you can.
We are ready to take a giant step forward. But we can't do this without your full support. Thanks very much for all that you do and for your consideration of helping Faith in America increase our mission and impact across the country.
